KENT, Ohio (UPI) -- Ric Blevins scored 24 points to key a Kent State attack that included making 32 of 43 free throws as the Golden Flashes beat Mid-American Conference rival Central Michigan 83-74 Wednesday night. Blevins, a senior forward, now has 1,023 points in a career that included two seasons at Rhode Island. Kent, which improved to 14-4 overall and 6-2 in the MAC, led 38-26 at the half and built an 18-point lead at 71-53 with 4:12 to go before securing the game with free throws down the stretch. The Golden Flashes made 20 of 29 free throws in the second half. Central Michigan, 8-11 overall and 3-5 in the league, was led by David Carter with 16 points. Jeff Majerle, Dennis Kann and Carter Briggs each scored 14 points. Mike Klinzing added 16 points for Kent, Harold Walton scored 15 and had seven assists, and David Barnwell scored 12.
