DENVER (UPI) -- Jon Spoelstra resigned Friday as president and general manager of the Denver Nuggets, just three months after he was hired to stabilize the team's front office. Spoelstra, who came to Denver on Nov. 2 after 10 years in Portland, said he was leaving for personal reasons, but would not elaborate. ``Jon came to us during a time of crisis to help us reorganize and redirect this team,'' Nuggets owner Peter Bynoe said. ``For personal reasons, Jon is no longer able to devote the 16 hours per day that he has been giving our organization.'' Pete Babcock, who stayed on as vice president of basketball operations after being replaced by Spoelstra as the Nuggets' top executive, will resume his duties as general manager, Bynoe said. Bynoe, the team's managing partner, said he would be assuming the responsibility of chief financial officer and handle the day-to-day operations of the team. Bynoe said Spoelstra would remain with the team as a consultant for at least the next two months. Bynoe also announced that Glen Grunwald, captain of the 1981 Indiana University team that won the national championship, had been hired as the team's general counsel.
