LAS VEGAS, Nev. (UPI) -- Two Nevada-Las Vegas basketball players have been suspended and a combined total of 10 Runnin' Rebel and Utah State players have been placed on probation by the Big West Conference following Thursday night's postgame brawl. Reserve center Chris Jeter was suspended for three games Friday by UNLV. the suspension was only slightly modified by the conference office Friday night following a review of the incident at the Thomas and Mack Center. Jeter sat out Saturday's game against North Carolina State and will miss Monday's game against San Jose State. Big West Commissioner Jim Haney also ruled Jeter will be suspended from UNLV's March 1 return game at Utah State. Rebel backup forward Moses Scurry also will be suspended for the game in Logan, Utah. Jeter and Scurry then will join teammates Stacey Augmon, David Butler, Anderson Hunt, Larry Johnson and James Jones on league-mandated probation for the rest of the season. Further incidents will result in their permanent suspension from the team, the conference said. Utah State players Allen Gordon, Randy Funk and Kendall Youngblood also were placed on probation for the rest of the season for their part in the brawl. Haney issued the ruling late Friday, after spending most of the afternoon and evening reviewing numerous videotapes of the fight provided by Las Vegas televison stations. An apparent head-butting incident by Jeter with only seven seconds left in the game led to the fight. The brawl broke out seconds after No. 12 UNLV defeated Utah State 124-90 and Utah State's Youngblood challenged Jeter to hit him. Jeter obliged and the fight escalated. Scurry was suspended after he delivered several blows to Aggies Coach Kohn Smith. Only one blow appeared to have landed.
