----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Re the Gerber article in PC Week on where data bases should reside: I read the article, and found it quite a snippy and narrow-minded view of the issue. The ad hominem remarks about the blinders on librarians seemed written to pander to the technical audience of pc-week rather than the kind of thing I would have expected from his academic position at USC. More to the point, the analysis was quite limited and didn't take into account some of the major issues--like cost, for example. It was all impressionistic with very little hard data. I don't think pacs-l readers should go charging after ILL for the piece if it doesn't happen to be around. Peter Graham, Rutgers University / Libraries
