I thought it would be handy to have a list of reviews of CD-ROM
network products. Although I have provided a brief summary of the reviews,
I suggest reading them before drawing any major conclusions. Many thanks to
the PACS-L users who have told us about these reviews in prior messages.
(1) Bradley Watson and Jon Fausey. "Relative Performance of Three
CD-ROM Network Access Products." OCLC Micro 5 (August 1989):
20-21.
EVALUATED: Artisoft (LANtastic), Meridian (CD Net), and Online (Opti-Net).
RESULTS: "In general, the multi-user tests showed the highest
retrieval rates for CD Net, with OPTI-NET a close second,
and LANtastic a distant third." (p. 21)
(2) "Software Broadens Access to CD-ROM." PC Week 6 (January 8, 1990):
23, 28-29, 32.
