----------------------------Original message---------------------------- The University of Charleston is using an AST 386 machine to run SilverPlatter ERIC and Medline. I can't attest to any better performance since this is the only machine we have had. You're observation about the speed of the CD player is more germaine. The speed offered by the 386 is more than offset by the slowness of our Hitachi drives. I have a DeskJet printer that I use for producing handouts, BI materials forms, etc. I would not recommend it for use with a CD set-up. The print cartridges don't last very long and are expensive. We use ThinkJet printers with plain paper ink cartridges. This allows us to use regular form feed computer paper. The problem with the cartridges still exists, but not to the same extent. They are quiet. Jim Harrington Information Services Librarian University of Charleston
