I am having some system problems that may be caused by the program Fractint, version 11 which I downloaded from the SIMTEL archives. As these system errors have not occured when running any other programs on my system I thought I would post them here in order to see if anyone else using the program has encountered them. Specificaly, I have got them message 'File Allocation table bad, drive c:' after leaving the program. I have rebooted and analyised my disk with every tools I have and not found any errors (I also checked for virus infection). I assume that the program is corrupting DOS somehow and wiping out the internal reference to the FAT. Aside from giving me heart stoppage, there appears to be no damage to the system, but I don't know what part of the program caused this (I not sure I want to try!). Another problem I had earlyier related to the use of the command line option FLOAT=TRUE. This worked fine the first time I invoked the program however on subsequent tries I got the error message 'Floating point not loaded'. After powering down my system for the night I was able to run the program fine the next day. Again, I'm not sure which fractal type caused the error as I had tried several. If anyone else has the program and encounters these errors please let me know and I'll try to get in touch with one of the authors to see if they know about them. ======================================================================== INET : PSYMCCAB@VM.UOGUELPH.CA Bob McCabe CoSy : bmccabe Psycholgy Dept., Phone : (519) 821-8982 University of Guelph Guelph, Ont.
