In my last posting asking about reviews/opinions on accelerator cards for the A2000, I forgot to ask whether anyone heard whether or not a 68040 version is forecast... While reading the December 21, 1989 Computing Canada issue, the 'Special Report' dealt with Motorola, and its 68040. To excerpt: "The 32-bit 68040, announced in March 1989, featuring more than 1.2 million transistors on a single piece of silicon, and complete compatibility with the 68000 family..." Mark, I am currently running a GVP-030 card with '882 and 4Meg of 32bit ram. I know 6 other people in town who also have this configuration. It is a nice system and gives you about a 7 fold improvement in most functions. In short it trucks. I would seriously suggest that you look at the 2630 card though, because it offers nearly the same performance and it should be available at a lower price -- or maybe GVP will have to lower their price now there is some competition. If you have any other questions send me mail. PS. I am using it with a 2090 card and a 4.2 rev. motherboard and have two problems with it: first I cannot get SETCPU's kickrom to load a 1.4 kickstart (this is most annoying for a developer) and second, I cannot reliably use FASTROM mode because the 2090 card will hang at random points during hard disk transfers (this is why I wrote "FileTest" which appears on Fish Disk 284).
