[bit.listserv.i-amiga] FTP'ing

ACYOUNG@SUNRISE.BITNET (02/02/90)

To those who encoutered it before,

I've learned how to sucessfully FTP to other sites with all those
wonderful Fred Fish files on them. But, once I get them back to my Amiga
my files will not unzoo....it reads into the first file and then it chokes
and says that's corrupted. Argh!
I've tried to set it to binary and ascii when I do my ftp. Neither
one works. Here is exactly what I've tried.

Selected file - all files have been ONLY zooed.

set transfer to binary & ascii

        used get to get file

Once the file is on my local UNIX system I
used Kermit on the UNIX system here to transfer it back to
my amiga. On the Amiga end I used Handshake V2.12a and it's
kermit. I get no errors during transfer but nothing will unzoo
nicely at all. Small or big files!

Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks.

In response to the message on FTP'ing, I must say, I have the EXACT same
problem with FTP'ing, yet I use a totally different method of getting my
files. this is what I do:
mail to: bitftp@pucc
ftp xxx.xxx.xxx
user anonymous
get files.xxx
oops!---I mean before I do a GET, I
BINARY F 512
then get files.xxx
quit

Im using a vax, so when I get the files, I
RECEIVE/binary file.xxx
then kermit
SET
FILE TYPE BINARY <- in kermit,
then proceed to download them using handshake 2.12 set to
kermit 8 bit binary..
Does anyone have a clue why my zoo files are corrupted?
Thanks,

In response to the messages on FTP'ing...

I can't see immediately what you guys are doing wrong but I have
a diagnostic suggestion:

Unzoo the files on your unix box before you waste time
   downloading it to your amiga.

Since I provide archives for people in my company, I
keep the stuff on my unix box anyways. I also re-zoo the
files in a standardized format. I use Zoo V2.01 by Rahul Dhesi
(1988) on both my amiga and on my Sun. I haven't had a single problem.

Good luck,
Keith

Are you setting file type to binary when you are transferring down to your Amiga
from your account? What protocol are u using anyhow? I used kermit unfortuna
tely, where I had to make sure to DL with 8 bit Kermit.
