Would anyone out there by chance have the Amiga executeable for NetHack? I am having trouble getting the UNIX version translated and compliled for the Amiga. The Amiga desperately needs some good network-related games, which are available by the dozens for MAC, IBM, and X11. If anyone has the inclination, what they should do is port NetHack completely to the Amiga by adding full color graphics, like the producers of Moria have done for the Amiga version. Perhaps they could add the capability to use any of the multiple-serial-port boards for the Amiga 2000, and also the internal Supra modem. The same could perhaps be done for the other network games, including NetTrek and XTrek. The game should work like some of the more recent terminal programs, in that the user just tells the program which serial.device file to use, and the game uses it. If anyone would be willing to do this, I am sure a lot of Amiga users would appreciate it.

I am on the Amiga development team for Nethack 3.0. The Amiga port is VERY near completion (as are all the other ports). DON'T spend your time porting the UNIX version yourself, several people have spent the last several months doing this for you and being very dedicated and careful. Productional release of the code is expected within a week or so (although we're a couple weeks behind original plans already). The reasons for this delay are so that there are (hopefully...) no problems in the code. The source code version will compile under both Manx 3.6 and Lattice 5.0. (No Manx 5.0 support is planned for Nethack 3.0 since it came out FAR too late in the game to be included and supported and work well. ) There is some support for some Intuition features. (More of this, and Manx 5.0 are slated for 3.1) Nethack 3.0 is HUGE and has something for everybody. Getting the whole thing compiled takes 2-3 MegBytes of disk (although you CAN compile it on floppy(s)). SO, if you wan't Nethack for the Amiga, just wait a week or so and the sources and binaries will appear on comp.sources.amiga and comp.binaries.amiga respectivly. I will also forward the whole schmere to AMIGA-S (what happens to it then...). It will also be available via anonymous FTP (actually it is now, but I dont' want to give out the address until things are finalized, although those of you who have gotten earlier versions may be able to figure out where it is.) Also, sorry to be creul, but I will NOT honor requests to forward/post to individuals. It takes me 30 mintutes just to FTP the whole thing (sources) and its far too big to keep on my account overnight, and I don't have the monthly allocation to do keep reprocessing it, sorry. I might be persuaded to make the executable available once to a presubmitted list of people, but dont send me your names until I let everyone know I'm ready. I don't mean to be picky, but just keeping up on the port myself is enough work (along with doing 'real' work for my job). For now, Mark
