Version 4.8 (now up to 6.0) on VMS machines ran multiplayer, where the multiplayer function was only visible in the Trading Post. Players could put items found in there for bid like an auction. Other players could come in and bid on them. If, after a few days, no higher bid is placed, the player who placed the last bid gets the item, and the player who put it up gets the money (minus an auction fee, of course). VMS system changes nuked the program, and later versions had removed the Trading post. I think v6.0 has (or will have) the Post in again. Another idea would be to account for all players logged-on at any one time and put them in the same dungeon, with the possibility of meeting!!! This would put an end to randomly generated dungeons, but it might still be possible.
