It would be very dangerous to ask a spirit if it is God. Demons CAN AND DO lie. I've experienced this. However, for the final proof, we MUST return to God's Word. 1 John (not sure of exact refer- ence) says to test the spirits and then gives a test. Ask it if Jesus is Lord and has come in the flesh. If it were to answer yes to this and be a demon, Satan would tear it apart. Besides, demons hate Jesus, so it wouldn't and couldn't answer in this way. That passage says that any spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ (which carries the meaning that Jesus is Lord) is come in the flesh is from God. Period. Get back to the Word, people, not opinions. And if you had difficulty discerning spirits everybody has difficulty discerning spirits? Is it not possible that other people do *NOT* have that difficulty? And for you, the Word is your best source of information and comfort, whereas another person may be more tuned into the spiritual side of things? And yes, that's my orientation. I say that being at risk of being bashed. I am much more comfortable with the spirit world, which does not scare me at all because I can tell the difference rather easily? But the Word at times confuses me, and I must go to my spiritual life to straighten it out? My faith would be quite empty if it just consisted of input from the Bible and noplace else. So, refrain from the generalizations, please, and recognize that you are simply more comfortable with the Bible and I am more comfortable with my spiritual life. We get the same place, you know!
