[bit.listserv.christia] Hello! I'm "new"

JVANDOREN@SMITH (01/13/90)

Hello! This is my first post to this list, but I have been listening in
for quite some time. I was afraid I wasn't going to get any work done if
I started to post messages, but I decided maybe I would try anyway and come
in outside of work hours!

Anyway, here is some information about me. My name is Julie Van Doren. I
became a christian my freshmen year at college through a staff worker with
Campus Crusade for Christ. I was involved with CCC from then on. I
graduated in '88. I'm now involved in the same church I went to during
school. I'm teaching 2 and 3 year old Sunday School. I love it. I'm
a pretty introverted person, so it has been very challenging. I have
a lot of learning and growing to do! Have any of you taught Sunday School
for young children (up through 2nd grade -I co-taught 1rst and 2nd grade for
a year - which was much more difficult for me, since it involved a lot more
talking and explaining)? Do you have any tips or anecdotes?

I'm also interested in missions. I took a class at my church called
"Perspectives on the World Christian Movement", sponsored by the U.S. center
For World Mission. It really opened my eyes to what God is doing in the
world. It put the whole old testament in a new perspective too. If a class
starts in your area, take it! (You can also, call the U.S. Center (it is in
Pasadena, California) and try to bring the class to your area).
Have any of you gone on any long or short term missions projects? I'd love
to here what you've learned and what God is doing where you went. Also,
I would be interested to here your methods for cross-cultural missions.
Does your church sponsor any missionaries? From where? We have missionaries
to Bangladesh, China, Germany, Columbia, Mozambique, Malaysia. Pretty wild.

Well, that's all for now. I also wanted to thank the person who sent us the
file MY.PRAYER. It is wonderful. I think I'll tape it on my wall or carry
it with me.

I also want to thank Elizabeth for her posting on the characteristics of
someone who has inner peace. I still have a few areas to work on -
(like doing things without fear from past experiences or people) which
means there are some areas in my life I still need to submit to God.
Sigh...

Julie,

Welcome to Christia, you spoke up at a good time! It's been
a little sad reading through my 96 pieces of mail this morning.
Maybe your fresh viewpoints can help jolt us out of this negative
frame of conciousness.
My Prayer was sent by me. When my life was at about it's lowest
point and it was difficult to even pray (just didn't even
feel that he would want to listen anymore) He gave me that song
and I would sing it with my guitar. It then became easier and
easier to pray. Don't think that because it was sung, and always
the same, that it ever lost meaning. It was difficult to sing
then because I was so desparate. It is still difficult today
to sing because the contrast in my life is so extreme it is
incredibly humbling to see how He *answered* *my prayer*!

Thanks for the positive note and brightening my day.

In His love,
Elizabeth
