In article <CHRISTIA%90011503434837@FINHUTC>, LISTP@WABASH says: > And, speaking of the future- I've been talking about going to China as >a missionary. Right now, for complex reasons, I'm leaning against it. The >thing I wanted to bring up here is the question of the special "call" some >people profess. I feel no specific "call" to any one activity, only to >serving >the Lord with all my gifts, no matter what I do. A couple of years ago I was helping the Church of the Saviour set up a shelter here in Washington DC. They place a great deal of emphesis on "call" and this forced me to think about my call. I tried spending some time with different groups working for the Kingdom. I volunteered in a soup kitchen, in a shelter, in a home for mentally handicapped people, caring for people with AIDS, and so forth. With Matthew 25 in mind, I tried to see Jesus in those who I served. I realized that at that time I most clearly saw Jesus in the homeless. I ended up moving into the shelter and living there for a year. It was a most grace-filled time. Since then I have consistantly used this same method, and have yet to be disappointed in discovering my "call" this way. I have also found that your call will change as the Lord has different tasks for you to do in bringing about the Kingdom. Work hard at your particular task, but be ready to move on when the Lord calls. Good luck! ------- Jim McIntosh (JIM@AUVM) The American University Washington DC 20016 USA
