THis summer, I was asked a simular question. I worked in YNP (Yellowstone NP)
and had the misfortune to wake up a sleeping Bison at 1:30 in the morning.
Needless to say, the Bison was not a happy camper, and decided to charge.
My first thought was "Oh S**T!!! God Help ME!!!" At which point I acted
upon instinct and threw myself into the fetal position avoiding the brunt
of the charge. I was hit but luckily my Jacket suffered more damage than
I did! I still had a wellt about 6 inches long and swelling to half an
inch, but I avoided getting gored by, as the doctor put it, "Had you moved
a second earlier, the Buffalo would have reoriented on you and got you
worse, had you moved a second later, you wouldn't have gotten out of the
way and seeing where it hit you, you would be dead right now!" Well, I
was thankful to simply be alive, when on girl walked up to me and said,
"Now this is why I can't believe in a God, if a God did exist, then why
would He allow you to get hurt like that?" I looked at her and smiled,
and simply said, "I could be dead, and believe it or not I'm better off
because of the attack! It's made me realize how much I took life for
granted...."
I bring up this illistration, because some people saw my attack in a
negative light and were glad that they weren't attkacked. I saw it in a
positive one and am to this day glad I was attacked---of course I have
THE BEST summer incident story around! But what others saw as a bad incident
I saw as a growing oppurtunity and an eye opener, which could be said about
alot of diseases.
