THE RUMOR ABOUT MRS. O'HAIR'S LATEST ESCAPADE IS A FRAUD!!!! Every few years, the FCC is inundated with letters from Christians who have heard a rumor that Mrs. O'Hair is petitioning to have all religious broadcasting removed from the airwaves. Every few years, the FCC replies with form letters explaining that this is not true, and asking co-operation in squelching the rumor. (Actually, the cycle may be shorter than that -- the rumor surfaced on this board last spring or thereabouts.) Now someone might reasonably object that a series of false alarms does not eliminate the possibility of an eventual genuine alarm, and that Mrs. O'Hair may even have deliberately set off many false alarms so that when she really did make her move, no one would believe it was happening until too late. But I think it is a safe bet that there are enough non-atheists in the FCC and other government bureaus so that if there ever are real hearings of the sort described, you will read about them in the major newpapers and newsmagazines of all editorial slants, and hear about them on the six o'clock news. Until that happens, relax. Yours, James Kiefer
