Abigail,

I just wanted to thank you publicly for your
excellent post on the view of Scripture in the
first five centuries. I hold to a very literal
interpretation of Scripture myself (though certainly
with the understanding that many of the historical
events were so arranged by God to have an equally
important figurative meaning--does that make me
an Antiochene? :-) ), but I find it fascinating and
helpful to see how committed believers in other
times understood God. It helps me to strip away
some of my misconceptions of God which neither God
nor His Word teaches, but which my society/culture/century
tells me that He teaches.

The scholarship which went into your posting is
obvious, and the posting itself is very helpful in
understanding the thinking of christians in an age
that I know very little about. Thanks again.

                                Your fellow pilgrim,
                                Reid M. Davis
