[bit.listserv.christia] KE: Slain in the Spirit

D2MG@SDSUMUS (Kurt Evans) (02/13/90)

I certainly think Gary's citation of Revelation 1:17 applies.
Here are some other scriptures to consider:

2 Chronicles 5:
13 in unison when the trumpeters and the singers were to make them-
selves heard with one voice to praise and to glorify the Lord, and when
they lifted up their voice accompanied by trumpets and cymbals and in-
struments of music, and when they praised the Lord saying, "He indeed
is good for His lovingkindness is everlasting," then the house, the
house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud,
14 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the
cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

Ezekiel 1:
28 As the appearance of the rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so
was the appearance of the surrounding radiance. Such was the appearance
of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell on
my face and heard a voice speaking.

Matthew 17:
5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed
them; and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved
Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!"
6 And when the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and
were much afraid.

John 18:
4 Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were coming upon Him,
went forth, and said to them, "Whom do you seek?"
5 They answered Him, "Jesus the Nazarene." He said to them, "I AM."
And Judas also who was betraying Him, was standing with them.
6 When therefore He said to them, "I AM," they drew back, and fell
to the ground.

Acts 9:
3 And it came about that as he journeyed, he was approaching Damas-
cus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him;
4 and he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul,
Saul, why are you persecuting Me?"

I've never been slain in the Spirit. I came really close a couple
of times, but I resisted. My friends who have been say they were fully
conscious the whole time, and hadn't gone into a trance or anything.
The presence of the glory of the Lord is the culprit here, I'm quite
convinced, and I wouldn't mind being overwhelmed in this way sometime.

                                       For Jesus' glory,
                                       Kurt
