    Thank you for that, Michelle.  As a Christian, I grieve to see
one of God's greatest gifts--the Bible--falsely contrasted to another
of our greatest gifts--science.  Religion and science are two ways of
knowing, two windows through which to view the awesome mystery of
creation.  The trouble arises when you mix the two--either by viewing
science as a religion and leaving God out of the equation, or by viewing
the Bible as a scientific text.
    Einstein, perhaps our greatest scientist, said exactly what you are
saying.  The purpose of his research was to understand God's thoughts.
