I've been playing on a friend's copy of the Battletech game from Activision, on an IBM clone machine. I've mostly gotten the hang of the controls, and, indeed, I've been kicking some major Marik butt in the name of House Davion. The problem? My unit, thanks to my incredible tactical skill (well, all right, a lot of it was dumb luck) has earned the confidence of House Davion, which is, I suppose, a good thing, but I've also gotten the reputation of a veteran unit. All of the contracts offered me are to take out one or more heavy mechs--and my lance is two Locusts and two Jenners. I've found pretty good mercs to fly (drive?) them, but we can't do much to a Warhammer or a Battlemaster. Only once have we beaten a heavy mech. It was a Rifleman, with the thin armor in the rear, and it blew one leg off my Jenner, wrecked one of the Locusts, and killed a good pilot. We just can't take anything tougher with any hope of survival. Yes, I've tried moving into Steiner space. Not only does my reputation precede me, but these people are cheap! Should I just start over and do things differently, accepting the contracts for mediums and multiple lights at first to get more money and buy better mechs for when I'll have to meet the heavies? Or does one of you have a viable tactic for two Locusts and two Jenners to mix it up with a Marauder and come out on top? I can't afford to buy new mechs. I've tried jumping over the heavies, with the idea of doing a 180 in mid-air, landing behind them where their armor is thinnest, and pounding on them from point-blank range (this works quite well on lights and mediums), but the heavies take aim and blow me away on the way up! It's frustrating! Does anyone out there have any advice at all? Besides "Get a life!", that is. Thanks in advance, The Centurion
