JMP software has just been widely released. I've played with it a bit on a souped-up Mac SE/30, and there is one particular feature I like. Namely, the ability to look at a graphical representation of the data, point a a data point with the mouse, then delete it (or a group of points), and have the entire analysis recalculated real-time excluding these points. This is very slick (in my eyes). Having languished writing code to do this in batch mode in a CMS environment, I was madly in love with the ease with which you can do this interactively in JMP. Problem is a) my data sets are too large to be reasonably handled by ANY Mac, and b) I hate Mac's for anything except drawing figures (I object to the happy face icon!). But I do like Sun workstations (speed thrills!). Since the Sun works (in many respects) like a Mac, is there any possibility that the SAS platformed on the Sun will be modified to allow it to do what you can do with JMP on a Mac? In my mind, this would be the ultimate union of two technologies. Given that SAS now resides on a number of high-end graphically oriented OS platforms, why not make the full-blown SAS package work like JMP on this kind of hardware? If JPM is very popular, then perhaps it will be rewritten in a portable fashion. 2) If you went to some of the formal demos, you saw the beginnings of many of these capiblities in mailine SAS/Graph. How quickly this actually gets out the door as a product will depend on how much SAS thinks this will add to their product. -- J.
