[bit.listserv.sas-l] PC-SAS -EMS and proc corr

(PC-SAS 6.03)
I have been struggling with large (>90 var) matrices trying to do factor
analyses from matrices produced with proc corr on my Everex 368-25 with
4 megs of memory. All sorts of experimenting with -ems in config.sas
and I kept coming up with "unable to allocate sufficient memory" error.

Some of you have been real helpful in suggesting ways to fix the problem.
But not my SAS coordinator has spoken with Dave Brumett, the head EMS
honcho at SI who says 87 vars is about all I will get. Proc corr does
not take advantage of ems. Only the SAS system itself has ems images,
not the procs. This translates to about 70 vars under the display manager.
I have maxed out the capabilities of PC-SAS proc corr. It doesn't matter
if you set the LENGTH of vars to 3, as this affects only the stored
datasets, not what is processed in memory.

I just thought those of you who have been following this (and have had
suggestions) would like to know how (poorly) this has turned out. I will
have to do the matrix in pieces and then combine the output of proc corr,
or (reluctantly) to it on the VAX that has a real virtual memory manager.

  Thanks for the attention.
