[bit.listserv.sas-l] SAS Beta-Test and Confidentiality

ARGH@UORMVS.BITNET (Gary Katsanis) (02/28/90)

Strong Memorial Hospital and University of Rochester is a beta-test
site, as is another site in Rochester, NY. Initially, I asked about
the sort of things I could and could not say about the product. The
only guideline I received was that if I had any criticisms of the
new version, I should present them to SAS Institute first.

I got this information from Barrett Joyner, who is the Marketing
Director for SAS Institute.

We went one step farther, asking if we could demonstrate Version 6.06
in a general meeting of our local users' group. Again, we received
their OK to go ahead, as long as we mentioned that the software was a
test version.

I've also worked with other non-University people to demonstrate the
new version, each time with SAS Institute's explicit approval. While
I have taken the trouble to talk with SI before the demonstrations,
I've never received anything other than immediate approval.

I'd be very interested in hearing specifics about the 'violation of the
beta-test confidentiality agreement' mentioned over the list.

Sincerely yours,
