>Glenn, >I have appreciated reading your comments that appear regularly. You have >helped us solve many problems--major and minor. I am preparing to re- >place a 286 Novell server with an IBM Model 80. In the 286, we had 3 cards:2 >Novell 2000 and a 3Com Lan cards. The Novell 2000 cards connects the server >to two LANS with about 12-15 PC's on each and the 3Com connects the server to >the campus backbone. What LAN cards would you recommend that I use for the >IBM system? Should I be considering a bridge? >The server is used primarily for WordPerfect, for RBase, and for communicatin >with our VAX with TES. >I look forward to hearing your comments. >Thank you in advance. >Bill You did not say if you were going to run NW 286 or 386. I will reply for both options... First NW386... I love Novell's new microchannel NE2/32 card. It is a 32 bit screamer. With a single one of these in your model 80 and 8 megs of RAM, you can handle 100 heavy hitters with essentially no degradation. I know it is hard to believe, but from personal benchmark testing that I have performed on the 80, I am a believer. For NW286, no NE2/32 drivers have been written. Novell, if you are monitoring this, please consider doing this ASAP. There would be a lot of takers... Anyway I have heard good things about the Gateway boards and the Novell NE/2 board is not a bad choice either.
