[bit.listserv.novell] Lotus 1-2-3 v2.2

LSPETE@UBVMS.BITNET (01/12/90)

Hello all,
Has anyone been able to get the single user version of 1-2-3 v2.2
to work on a network for more than one user? We had purchased 85 copies
of it before the network version was released. It works fine for one
user, but anyone else attempting to use it gets an error "1-2-3 cannot
start because the Standard Edition network license is currently in use"

        ANY help would be appreciated.

        Thanks in advance,

thats what they are doing for us. The pricing is even better also.

We got a pre-release version of 2.2 to evaluate this past summer, and the
first thing we found, as you did, was that it would not serve multiple
users. I talked extensively with Lotus personnel, both technical and
sales types, and was told that 2.2 is written specifically to prevent
multiple usage, although there is "a way" known to some of the insiders
to get around the protection. I was unsuccessful in my efforts to get
them to share with me the necessary technique, and I was unwilling to
spend a lot of time hacking around with the program. Your best bet is
probably to get them to upgrade the license to the network version, which
I understand is now shipping.

When last I spoke with them, there was no defined upgrade policy, but that
may have changed. Coincidentally, I'm lunching with a Lotus rep this
afternoon; I suspect they've seen this problem before, and there may be
a procedure for dealing with it.

Pete,
We tried unsuccessfully to install the single user version for multiple
users. 85 seems to be a popular number, that's the number of copies we had
purchased. We ended up sending back the single user disks and getting upgrades
to the multi-user network version.
