[bit.listserv.novell] slowing down

acm@RELAY.PROTEON.COM (02/02/90)

We have a file server which we recently upgraded from Novell 2.15a to
2.15c and this caused one of the hard drives in it to slow down.

The server only has 1.5 Meg of memory, and it's possible that the low
amount of memory may cause it, but I want confirmation that 2.15c with
1.5 Meg is slower than 2.15a with 1.5 Meg.

The thing that convinces me that the small memory isn't doing it is
the fact that only one of the identical (unmirrored) 60 Meg hard
drives slowed down, and the other one was just as fast as before. Is
there something wrong with the device driver? What else may cause
     this to happen?

Still sounds like not enough cache memory for the second drive. Try
disconnecting the drive that is fast and use just the slow one then see if
the slow one becomes fast. If so add more memory.
