I'm in the process of setting up a 2.15 server with a 300MB disk. Given the limit on volume size of 255MB, what are the optimum sizes for the volumes? Currently I'm going for SYS: 50MB VOL1: 125MB VOL2: 125MB This is largely because our other servers have 125MB disks. Should I use SYS: as the primary (ie 255MB) volume and use the other volumes for users and applications? Should I make SYS: just for the NetWare stuff (MAIL, PUBLIC, SYSTEM etc) and use VOL1 for everything else? Am I doing things completely backwards? Arthur, what we have been doing here is creating a SYS: volume of about 50 megs, and putting the rest into VOL1. We out the users on VOL1, and the Netware stuff and most of our smaller software packages on SYS. *------------------------------------+----------------------* |Larry Bradley | LARRY@VM.NRC.CA | |Communications Manager | Larry.Bradley@NRC.CA | |National Research Council of Canada | LARRY@NRCVM01 | |Networks Branch | | |M60, Montreal Road | (613)993-0240 | |Ottawa, Canada K1A 0R6 | FAX:(613) 954-2561 | *------------------------------------+----------------------*

Practically speaking, you want to limit the number of volumes. If you need to get to 'em, you will have to define a precious drive letter for each of them. go with two volumes on the 300 meger. The sizes are really not that important. Dear Mr. Green: We are Novell Gold Dealers in Hawaii. We have as many people doing the sceanario you mention either way, but I think I prefer the second method - the SYS: volume as the smaller of the two. Good Luck
