At the Boston NUG meeting last night I had the honor of setting up one workstation for bridging from Ethernet (UTP) to ProNET-10 and I found out a mind-boggling fact. NET3.COM version 2.15 rev B (which comes with 2.15 rev C Netware) does not work with the DOS TYPE command. The version of dos I was using was Compaq 3.31 and the problem seems to show up with bot networks (and I suspect ALL networks.) The workstation simply hangs and will not respond to CTRL-BREAK either with break on or off. It will respond to a CTRL-ALT-DEL. Has anyone else seen this action or is it limited to this version of dos??? -Alan Marshall, VP Proteon Inc. 2 Technology Drive CCMAIL: acm at proteonwebo Westboro, MA 01581-5008 ARPANET: acm@Proteon.com tel: (508)898-2120 MHS: acm @ ProteonW

Hope this helps. Jeff Webb UT at Dallas

We've encountered a similar problem, however much more restricted. Using a 55SX-061 with net3.com rev b, we cannot do anything using the filename "NEXT". Any longer or shorter names (such as NEX or NEXT1) all work ok. We cannot create, delete, type, of modify an existing file named "NEXT". None of this holds true of other machines running this shell. Brian, I'm using the same DOS (Compaq 3.31 rev E) and have no problems with the TYPE command when using NET3.COM v3.00 rev A. What kind of file was being typed? I don't know right now what rev the 3.31 was but we did do it on several machines, all exhibited the problem. The file was a simple text file (called news). The same problem shows up in the display and fdisplay login script commands when logging into netware 2.15 rev c. I did not try it with any other server versions. When I used the previous 2.15 rev A net3.com it works fine. -Al
