[bit.listserv.novell] Question for Novell forum

CGTAYLO@ERENJ.BITNET (Clement Taylor) (02/09/90)

Dear Colleagues, A co-worker of mine has asked me to pass the following
question along to the group. Thank you very much, Clem Taylor

Here is the question I would like you to post for the novell forum for
me.
_______________________________________________________________________
I generated an external bridge using Netware v2.15 and two Proteon
p1800 boards in an IBM PS/2 model 55. I used the default configuration
and generated a real mode bridge. When I attempted to activate the
bridge, I got the error message "Error initializing LAN driver. Pronet
10 device not responding on LAN A. The server will be shut down".

I called Novell. They had me download a pro101.arc file from compuserve
nova library 5, unarc the file, and copy some files to my brgen1 and
lan_drv_002 diskettes, which I did. Then I regenned the bridge, and
got the same problem.

Does anybody out there have any ideas for me? Thanks.

The question on ProNET problems with PS/2 was referred to
customer-support@proteon.com and an answer should be forthcoming. It
sounds like a configuration error.

Clem,
Proteon boards in an external bridge: I too have a set of Proteon
boards, p1300?? (have to excavate the docs to know), and got the same
msg, "Error initializing LAN driver". The real problem was getting the TRN
junction box set correctly, and ensuring that the stiff wire was still
attached to the PCs. Once accomplished the boards worked ok in a server and
in an external NetWare bridge.
