(Flame on) It seems that you lot on the "western" side of the puddle get brilliant prices from Novell. Netware 386 in the UK would cost us (University) about 6K Sterling, about 10k Dollars, per server. Even at 2k Sterling (ca 3000+++ dollars) per server it becomes hard to justify Netware 286. We also have a Bum Rating. When we teach a class, we need n licences of a package for n Bums. Our main teaching facility in our department has a 14 Bum rating. Our mainframe hosts, certainly faster for comparable applications, has better than 100 Bum rating. Even with ed discounts, lower cost network licences, the peak use of applications for classes make PCs economically unattractive. Therefore: I see very little hope for Novell selling anything but the minimum of systems. Netware 386 is out because of the exceptionally high price. I dont think that Netware is "competetively priced". We will still use our multi-access hosts simply because they cost less to run. (and users dont have the tight DOS memory restrictions). As for adding in this and that (name servers, for example), they should be bundled. As for sticking with Netware through thick and thin, we wont if it proves too expensive and/or incompatible with international standards (which we demand of our mainframe suppliers, at least. Novell, especially Novell in the UK, I hope you are taking note. Bertil Schou.
