[bit.listserv.novell] IBM Token Ring Adapter

AS001101@YUORION.BITNET (Michael Corbett) (02/09/90)

Has anyone ever had a broken IBM Token Ring Adapter repaired? IBM Canada
considers it a disposable product. I have called a few places here in Toronto,
Ontario but no one seems to work on them. I am wondering if it is hopeless and
should give up.

Check out LANFIX (800-448-7420) out of Orem, Utah. They will fix Token-Ring
boards, as well as most other network boards, for a flat fee. The cost for
a TR board is $220. Most other kinds of boards are considerably less.

Boy, my New England upbringing is showing! That really makes me gag. I am
sure you can find some 3rd party service outfits that will repair IBM
cards. I don't know of any myself but you should be able to find some in
the ads at the back of PC Week and some of the other mags. Byte is one I
would try too. Try calling some of your distributors and perhaps they have
some knowlege of good service people.

Micheal,

We have never actually had one repaired but I did receive a mail
ad recently that advertises this service. I have no idea how good
their service actually is. Here are the details.

              Computer Recyclers
              1386 W. Center St.
              Orem, Utah 84057
              (801) 226-1892

Cost is $145 to repair IBM board (XT bus or MC). This includes
return shipment, "fast turnaround", and a 1-year warranty. If you
try them I would be interested in hearing the results. You never
know when you may need the service.
