I too have had a recent experience with my Seagate ST4096 failing. Fortunately, it was in my workstation instead of in the server. The problem I had with it is that it sometimes couldn't "get going" from a cold boot. Re-starting or sometimes giving the drive a bit of a "shake" would get it going. If my machine was left on, there would be no problem. We used the drive for 2.5 years. In the last year, it had this problem on and off until finally there was no hope for getting it going. Unfortunately, I didn't have much say in the deal--so guess what it got replaced with--ANOTHER ST4096 (someone has it out for me). Currently, I'm using a 300M Miniscribe (ESDI) in our server (Zentith 25Mhz 386) and have had very good luck. --- Cornell Kinderknecht Comp.
