I have an interesting and perhaps a strange question. Is it possible to receive AM on SW ???? Well, the reason I am asking this is: I have a small sw receiver. While playing around with it, I noticed an interesting thing. There is one station which appeared on ALL SW bands at the same physical location on the dial (the radio has analog tuning). After some investigation :-) I discovered that the station indeed is a MW station broadcasting at 790 Khz. Next thing I did was to switch to the MW band. I expected the station to be at the same dial location, but to my surprise it wasn't. On the SW bands the reading was just above the corresponding 800 KHz spot, whereas on the MW band it was closer to 790. Another curious factor is if in the SW band, tuned to this station, I turn the radio off and then turn it on again. No, the radio can not pick up the MW station. However if I slightly de-tune it and bring the dial back to the original position, the MW station is also back ! There must be some explanation for this, but it beats me. What I am worried most is whether my new radio is defective ! In particular Why it should happen at 790 K ? Is there something special about it ? Is this a common phenomenon :-)? Any comments ? B.S.
