I am considering upgrading my receiver to either a JRC NRD525 or a Kenwood R5000. My current order of listening preferences are mainly CW first, then SSB, and lastly AM. I have read all the literature I could lay my hands on about these two radios. I have talked to the folks at Universal Radio, Bob Grove, Gilfer, and EEB. I am quite familiar with the capabilities and options for these radios. The options I have in mind are the .5KHz CW filter, the 1.8KHz SSB filter, and additionally, for the R5000 only, its better 6KHz filter. For the moment, taking price out of the equation, it seems that it's a toss up between these two radios. The scales seem to be slightly tipped in favor of the R5000 because what little consensus I could get was that the R5000 is slightly more reliable, maybe! Any more info you can give me to help me make my decision would be greatly appreciated. Which of these is the better radio and why? Thanks in advance.
