[bitnet.swl-l] LOG: what i've heard recently

toad@PT.CS.CMU.EDU> (02/10/90)

One thing that I hoped would appear on this group since it's beginning
was more station guides & lists.. (I'd rather listen than read about
listening).

So, I'm posting some. The format is: time, freq, short description.

This is just a short list of things I've logged (I type these in for myself)
in about three hours over two days in the past week, and mostly I was just
scanning a couple meter bands.

>From this simple format I can then sort by frequency and time.

For example, if my file is called my.log, then

     sort my.log | uniq > ~/new/sw/my.time
     sort -n +1 my.log | uniq > ~/new/sw/my.freq

(on unix) creates files sorted by time, and frequency (requires some minor
post-editing).

If we all worked together, we could probably come up with something better,
listing begin and end times, broadcast areas, etc. As it is, I still have
something that's pretty useful to me. I don't have time to hack out such a
thing. Perhaps a friendly program that prompts for various fields, or a gnu
mode for such...

Or, if you have a favorite station/area, maybe you could put together their
schedule? Some people already do this, posting DX shows or the frequencies
and times for Radio X.

However, I might merge in some others' logs, though I don't have much time
for it, and will post the merged lists if you like, though if someone else
volunteers that's fine. If you send any, try to follow this format (regexp):
    ^[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]\t[ 0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]\t.*
ie,
4-digit utc time, a tab, a leading space for <10000kHz, a tab, and anything.
This insures the above sort's will work. Also, include your location and
perhaps what you use to listen (eg, I have a Panasonic rfb-60).

I hope some people find this useful, and not too many flame...
Corrections/expansions welcome as well.

thanks,
    -todd

ps: if you can't for some reason sort these files,
I can also send you sorted versions. Specify
whether you'd like it by date and/or time.
