The 1990 edition of the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) "National Repeater Guide" has just been published by the Personal Radio Steering Group (PRSG). This 9th edition describes more than 1,000 GMRS repeater systems and monitoring watches in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Since a rule-change at the start of 1989, new GMRS licenses are available only to private individuals for personal, family and business communications. It is one of the fastest growing land mobile services. Many repeater systems listed in the Guide are operated by nonprofit community-service radio teams and user cooperatives. The Guide also lists hundreds of GMRS stations operated by local governments and quasi-public agencies that licensees can call for assistance while passing through the area. Many listings include signaling data and station characteristics, as well as contact names, addresses and telephone numbers. Besides station listings, the Guide features an extensive introduction and tutorial on the history and capabilities of GMRS. The Personal Radio Steering Group Inc. is the national service organization for GMRS licensees. The PRSG publishes the monthly "Personal Radio Exchange" for GMRS users, as well as instructional materials on licensing, radio purchasing and interference resolution. The PRSG computer BBS brings subscribers the latest GMRS news, and provides a forum for discussion among licensees. The GMRS National Repeater Guide is available from the PRSG for $10.00 (postage included), or is included with the $30.00 "Personal Radio Exchange" newsletter subscription. PRSG, P.O.
