[bitnet.swl-l] ICOM 24-AT vs Joe HT

pvh@BBN.COM> (02/13/90)

Do you who have purchased the 24-AT think it is worth the rather extravagant
asking price ($629 list without tone squelch or encode/decode)? I'm thinking I
should just get a Kenwood 75-A or Yaesu FT-470 since they list for less and
didn't make every feature necessary for crowded repeater areas an option, even
though the 24-AT has some obvious great advantages.

(any comparisons between these three units would be welcome!)

Thanks,

Pete

I recently had (?) to go throught this same decision-making process.
Naturally, I posted a plea to net.ham-radio.wisdom for pointers,
recommendations, and advice on the matter. I was not disappointed. I had also
promised to summarize the replies I got, for the benefit of readers like
yourself. I still intend to do so, Real Soon Now.

I can note here that I finally opted for the FT-470, and so far I
haven't been disappointed. I'll explain more fully when I get around to the
summary posting. Until then, my hearty thanks and 73s to those who responded!
