Hi, I recently (late December) purchsaed a Sony ICF-2010 radio. The radio sometimes makes rather strange sounds; it can be sitting, playing, and all the sudden it starts making noises that sound like a lawn mower, or something like that. I've discovered by trial and error that turing the radio off, then on again, often stops it (for a little while, anyhow) and, as I discovered this morning, moving the radio will also sometimes stop it. Is there something wrong with my radio? This has happened both with internal and external antennas attached. (I don't *think* that I've damaged any of the FETs....the radio still seems very sensitive as a week or so ago I got an MW station from Canada!). Any help would be appreciated. On an unrelated note, does anyone know of any SW antennas for the car? My local radio shack told me that a scanner antenna would do, but its coverage is supposed to start at 50 MZ, so I'm not sure. Again, any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Nathan Justus -- Nathan Justus AT&T Bell Labs Holmdel, NJ att!mhuxd!nathan or nathan@mhuxd.att.com (UUCP) nathan%mhuxd@att.att.com (ARPA)

Does the "lawn mower" sound happen when the "sync" option is turned on, and not other times? If so, it is the same thing that was discussed some months back -- a defect in the Sync circuit that seems to affect some radios much more than others. If it happens when "sync" is off, or when you are receiving an FM station, though, this is something else entirely. Can't offer any solutions in either case, sorry to say. My 2010 has the sync glitch and there seems to be no way around it. Will Martin
