[Press release from...] "THE FRIENDS OF THE VOICE OF AMERICA "Non-partisan and non-profit, the Friends of the Voice of America (FOVOA) is made up of serving and retired VOA employees and members of the general public who support the Voice of America and its role in international broadcasting. The organization seeks to increase public awareness of, and support for, the VOA; to encourage and enhance VOA professionalism; and to provide a non-official forum for the discussion of international broadcasting issues. "Formed February 9, 1990, the Friends of the Voice of America is immediately concerned with the preservation of six VOA languages slated for termination April 1, 1990 [NB: this decision was recently rescinded]. "FOVOA is urging that VOA be adequately funded to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 1990's. "The acting chairman of FOVOA and its public spokeman is Allan E. Baker who was Chief of the VOA's Near East and South Asia Division from 1970 until his retirement in 1982.
