Index Number: 6013 We are currently rethinking our handicapped parking policy here at George Mason University. Our Campus Access Committee will be considering the following proposals: 1. Remove the distinction between "severely" and "regualar" handicapped parking. (At present a number of "choice" spaces are reserved for severely mobility impaired students who transport themselves to and from class.) 2. Grant long-term handicapped parking permits solely on the basis of possesing a Department of Motor Vehicles handicapped parking permit granted by a state. 3. Assign the responsibility of reviewing applications for short-term permits to the Office of Disabled Student Services. (Appplications would have to be accompanied by a "doctor's note" attesting to the need for "close-in" parking.) I would appreciate any comments as to what is done at other universities and any opinions you may have on these proposals. -- ========================================================= | S.M.
