Most answering machines with the VOX feature have the ability to
disable it via switch settings.

Be sure to let me know how it works out, Jesse. My answering machine
is one of those single-tape PhoneMates, and when the reply tape gets
kinda full there is a long wait between the TDD tones and the CTS
tone while the tape fast-forwards. Can you think of a workaround
for that?

Have a Merry Christmas!

Jack.

Not necessarily. Many of the answering machines that appear to have
switchable vox actually just limit the maximum length of the call, with
Vox. It's harder to turn off than you think. Look for old answering
machines at garage sales.

Get a dual-tape answering machine.
