Index Number: 6111 My experience has been with a job I had last year. You are allowed approximately $60/month (call the 800 number and ask for the exact figure - you don't have to give your name). After that for every $2.00 you make SS takes $1.00. So if you are getting $300/month you can make $600.00 (after the initial $60.00) and that will cancel out your SSI check. They do their calculations on the GROSS amount you make NOT the NET amount of take home... That means that they get paid twice. Once when you give the withholding for Soc. Sec. and then when they figure your gross income. I found that between SS wanting their money and city housing wanting theirs (also calculated on the gross amount) I was working to pay them and had ZERO for myself. I can't tell you what to do but a good name for a business is "The Under The Table, Corp." and a good motto - "We deal in CASH only"......But then again, what do I know. (If you do forget the business be careful of the consequences if caught). But then again if you are just helping a couple of buddies out and they happen to drop a little cash your way who's gonna prove it was for services rendered and not a repayment of a loan or something?
