Thank You Barbara for your reply. The Information that you have given me
will be a great help. Allen is only considered as a PRE-KENDER student
because of his birth date. So he has two more years before he is of age
for the first grade. I hope that I , as a parrent , will be able to help
prepare him for school. Not having any traning or know how , as an
educator or any ascociation with the blind , has somewhat placed me at a
great dissadvantage. So I am always in search of reliable information and
input from anyone who is willing to comment.
Thankx again ! I shall be in touch to let you know how things go.
I just had a thought , for you are anyone who would like to comment,
wouldn't it be nice if there was an echo for educators and other
professionals that deal with the handicap ?
Just a thought. Have a very nice day. Will be looking forward to further
chatting with you on the echo.

Hi Gene,
You are very welcome. That's what the echo is all about. When I think of
the things that are unknown by disabled individuals and their parents,
kept arcane by teachers, I just jump up and down and scream. I believe in
teaching people how to fish, not fishing for them. What happens if i"m
not there?
Be glad to help in any way I can, so don't hesitate to ask. Oh, if
Library of Congress, 1291 Taylor NW, Washington, D.C. 20542 and your
local regional library can't help, try RNIB, the Royal National Institute
for the Blind in London. Don't have their address at hand but can get it
if you need it. Also you might try the National Braille Book Bank on
University Avenue in Rochester, NY 14607, and if you are interested in
any type of religious stuff, stories about the bible, C.C.D. stuff, et
al, there are a multitude of places that carry stuff from many religious
groups, Christian and jewish.
Hope that this additional info helps. Take care and always pretend you're
from Missouri, "seeing is believing". See you on-line.

P.S.
I heard one the other day that leaves me speechless. A blind ham friend
of mine who frequents 37.72, got a call from a short wave listener who
said that he had been told, ever since he had lost his sight, eight years
ago, that blind people couldn't use ham radios or computers! Where do
these incompetent people come from, I'd like to know?
A.K.P.

Just thought I'd tell you that there is a nationwide BBS called SPECIALNET that is available to special ed teachers and other professionals. The cost used to be restrictive but they have been gradually opening it up and making it more reasonable. Now, it is available to parents and consumers, as well. There are others, too. The RTA (Rehab Technology Associates has received a grant to help coordinate the vast amount of fragmented info that is around. They, too now have a BBS. For info, contact Dave Whipp (304) 766-7138. Tell 'em Milton Blackstone from DIGEX (that's my BBS - 619) 454-7300 - sent ya'. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!202!601!Milton.Blackstone Internet: Milton.Blackstone@f601.n202.z1.fidonet.org
