Index Number: 6691 Hi, I always thought that policies disallowing the drivers from helping wheelchair users who are unable to secure themselves as uttely rediculous and maddening. I suppose their theory is that if the wheelchair becomes loose and its occupant is some way injured, then since "they" did not secure the chair, they are not repsonsible and therefore safe from litigation? I wonder if that would really hold up in court? Afterall, if a bus provides a service and a ride to a wheelchair user, I would suspect that the carrier is just as liable for that passengers safety and comfort while in the drivers charge as is any other passenger. It would seem a greater risk for drivers to purposely leave a chair loose and unsecured than to simply show the driver how to assist those who need assistance. What's next. a decision to remove bus service to wheelchair users and other disABLED because we "may" be injured on their carriers? If I can get there, I am going. Keepin' the faith! .
