<"Hi,
<"
<"
<"I do tend to agree with you and so also, I think my being denied a
<"dog on the basis of my hearing impairment seems kind of silly.
<"But, the trainer / inteviewer who came to my home was very
<"concerned because I can't hear the flow of traffic. However, I
<"think they should keep in mind that I do have some useable vision
<"on the sides which I believe compensates for my hearing loss.
<"Keepin' the faith!

Hi Vixen,

Again you prompt me for info! How do you manage it? There's a school here in
New York State, Lockport, I think, where they train not just guide dogs for
the blind, but dogs for the deaf, and for the multiply handicapped. My friend
Lynn Gentry went there and got a dog. Lynn is totally deaf and is loosing her
sight. She had no problem getting her dog. I just called her on the relay
service and she gave me the address and telephone number below. She said to
tell you that she'll say a prayer for you that they'll be able to help you.
The name below is the lady to ask for when you call.

Canine Helpers for the Handicapped
5705 Ridge Road
Lockport, NY 14094
716-433-4035
Beverly Undorwood

I don't know about who pays transportation costs, etc, but give 'em a call.
You've got nothing to loose. Besides, if you come through Rochester, I'll get
to meet ya.

Take care, see you on-line

Ann P.
