I would have liked to have role models--not super successful people but
just ordinary people with disabilities living their lives successfully.
Also, a most valuable resource in many larger communities are the centers
for independent living.

There's a group in Boston called MENTOR that does provide disabled role
models for disabled girls; adults who do lead well-adjusted lives
though disabled. By the way, if the child is in a wheelchair, they
provide a roll model.
