Index Number: 7069 RE: Supported Living Arrangements I'm seeking any information regarding setting-up supported living for folks who are not yet able to live on their own. Although I'm interested in housing specifically designed for deaf young adults who have aged out of the educational system but are not yet able to live unsupervised, the process whereby such housing is established is likely to be similar to that for other differently abled folks. Briefly, the situation is this- my deaf brother currently lives in Michigan in a group home. This group home's contract is only for people who are still part of the educational system (in Michigan that is until 26th birthday, not 21 like most other states). He will soon age-out, and there is currently no supported living available for deaf persons (i.e., group homes, supervised apartments) in his area. My family, along with several others, is beginning to advocate and lobby for such housing. As part of the process, it would be helpful to know of other efforts that have been successful or unsuccessful, and how other communities or states have gone about establishing housing. If you have any suggestions, stories, etc., I'd appreciate hearing them. Please write to me or post a note here. Thanks, Peter K. Isquith V193EVNB@UBVMSD
