I think that I am "Disabled First", then a man.
To be imprisoned into a sex role ...! My friends who knew me as
a Man, before my traumatic brain damage, tried to relate to me as
a Man.
I found that so revolting. My women friends had all these crazy
ideas about relating to men ... These don't work with me now.
One of the very predictable side-effects of my disability is
"loss of libido".
The other people had these illusions about my supposed physical
prowess... walking, shopping, handyman, gardening, etc.
I found that if I give up the sex role, some simple minded people
are so unsure about relating to me, that we don't feel
comfortable. However, I am now seeing other more valuable people
who value their life outside of the prison that we call "Sex
Roles".
