Index Number: 7047 I thought the series of suggestions for modifying the environment for people with physical disabilities was great. I especially vibrated to suggestions of wind chimes, waterfalls, etc. to appeal to visually handicapped people. However, background noise--even if 'pleasant' noise--makes hearing speech difficult to impossible for people with hearing impairments, especially if hearing aids are worn. Don't know how to resolve this one--I like wind chime's and waterfall's sound, but can't hear speech through it.

Index Number: 7238 You make a good point about not being able to hear speech through wind chimes or a waterfall. For that reason the thoughtful architect should also include a space where noise is kept to a minimum. If you want to converse, you can go there with your conversant. A room with sound-absorbing material lining it would be a good idea. Thanks for the thoughts!
