Ann, I promise not to lecture you like you tried to do me. You do however
sound very much like one of the "token" disabled on our local mitsac
board. In stead of being an apologist why realize how much you hurt the
cause of the disabled person battling for full participation in their own
community. Instaed of crying for more "Paratransit" let's stamp it out
except for the extremes. First all public transit in this country does
an abysmal job. Every "Para" van takes away a portion of another full
service vehicle with it's required mechanisms of adaptation. Secondly,
and more importantly any disabled person should not have to hide away
in a van with darkened windows. Thirdly, all "Para transit" requires
advance notice before use. Like I told Greyhound it is a "Patent form of
discrimination to insist we notify the Company ONE minute before the
"normal" patron that drops in off the street".
And just so you will know I've had many good experiences with transit
operators. I love them all. I just can't stand what they DO!
In the words of the Amalgamated Transportation Workers "DROP DEAD, FRED"
That goes for Hershall, John, Wayne and any one else that wants to use
money as a justification not to give me "ACCESS is a CIVIL Right".
